For the first time in Yellow Medicine East history, the high school football team received Academic All-State Gold status. The achievement was obtained by the whole team by maintaining an average GPA greater than 3.25. The team actually had a GPA average of 3.32, the 3rd best GPA in Class A football across the state.
The players who contributed to the GPA team were: Drew Almich, Landon Anderson, Owen Cherveny, Cody Dahlager, Israel Eakes, Connor Fagen, Andrew Flaten, Luis Guzman, Moises Hidalgo, Nolan Hildahl, Patrick Hoernemann, Javier Jackson, Isaac Jimenez , Jaselen Jimenez, Archie LaRose, Jake Odegard, James Peterson, Jesse Petrich, Tarrick Rupp, Bryce Sneller, Adam Stengel, Nahum Tarin and Owen Torvik.
Patrick Hoernemann has been appointed All-State Academic Individual. The athlete was nominated by his football coach and was expected to have a GPA of over 3.75. The nomination took a big step forward in distinguishing the athlete, inquiring about other school activities Patrick has participated in, his plans for the future and his community involvement. Hoernemann was selected by a nominating committee as one of 14 winners of the All-State Academic Award for Class A football.
Head Coach Dave Schueler praised the athlete: “It’s a huge accomplishment and something that is well deserved for Patrick as he has always been an extremely hard worker on the pitch and in the classroom. “.
