Who’s on the 1A All-State Football Team? Shane Forman of Southern Lab, Landry Lyddy of Calvary in the lead | High schools

Southern Lab linebacker Shane Forman and Calvary Baptist quarterback Landry Lyddy lead the 2021 Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A football team.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Forman recorded 87 tackles, seven sacks and three tackles for one loss this season. In the championship game against Ouachita Christian, Forman totaled 12 tackles and recovered a fumble as the Kittens won 38-14.

Forman and Lyddy return all-state players to the LSWA. Lyddy had another prolific passing season to earn Offensive Player of the Year honors. The 6-1, 185-pound Lyddy signed early with Louisiana Tech and will report to Ruston for spring training. He had 4,247 yards and 53 touchdowns while leading the Cavaliers to the Division IV semifinals.

It took 82 years for the magic of the championship to return to Homer, but Richie Casey guided the Pelicans to the LHSAA Class 1A title by beating 1A powers Haynesville and Logansport along the way. This earned Casey the honor of LSWA Coach of the Year in a close vote against Southern Lab’s Darrell Asberry, who guided the kittens to an 11-2 record and the State Title of the division IV.

Casey, a former Louisiana Tech wide receiver, was not born the last time the Pelicans appeared in a state championship game (1985). He ran his program to an 11-3 record and was joined on the States squad by junior running back Ely’Jay Curry, offensive lineman Davion Champ and defensive back Takeldrick Webb.
