The coach of the USA men’s soccer team won $1.2 million while the women’s coach received $357,000

Washington: United States men’s national team coach Gregg Berhalter received $1.2 million in the fiscal year ending March 31, while women’s coach Vlatko Andonovski only received $1.2 million. than $357,597, according to tax figures released Wednesday.

U.S. Soccer Federation tax returns have been revealed on the organization’s website, showing Berhalter as the national governing body’s highest-paid employee.

The figures also showed the pay gap between men’s and women’s teams despite the higher success rate of two-time Women’s World Cup champions compared to American men, who failed to qualify for the Cup. Russia 2018 World Cup, which led to the hiring of Berhalter.

Berhalter’s salary of $1,291,539 was slightly lower than his total of $1,294,871 for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2020.

Andonovski, who was hired in October 2019, earned less than half former women’s coach Jill Ellis’ salary of $718,352 in the previous year’s filing.

But the contracts contain bonus money for World Cup crowns and the previous 12-month record included Ellis guiding the American women to the 2019 Women’s World Cup crown.

The United States Women’s National Team has filed a lawsuit against US Soccer, alleging unequal pay and gender discrimination.

US Soccer athletic director Earnie Stewart ranked second in last year’s salary list with $799,699.

Women’s team general manager Katie Markgraf was third on the salary list with $500,000. Male general manager Brian McBride, a former American star who replaced Stewart in the role, finished eighth with $338,417.

Federation President Cindy Parlow does not receive a salary.
