Price set for Dutch upgrades to Hillcrest Elementary, football stadium – Port Arthur News

NEDERLANDS — Members of the Netherlands School Board and construction leaders have reached maximum price agreements on two major projects this month, paving the way for new construction and renovations.

At a recent special meeting of the Nederland ISD board of directors, current board members voted unanimously to accept the maximum guaranteed price of $11,932,684 for Hillcrest Elementary.

School board members also voted unanimously to accept the guaranteed maximum price of $2,994,796 for Phase III of the Nederland Football Stadium renovations.

With maximum prices now set, Netherlands Independent School District superintendent Dr Stuart Kieschnick and staff are working with construction manager HB Neild & Sons Construction on delivery and final project costs.

Passed in the spring of 2019, school district voters approved more than $150 million in building and technology improvements that will eventually touch every aspect of the Netherlands Independent School District.

Some delay in the design process and the devastating effects of COVID, multiple hurricanes and winter freeze hampered the supply chain and labor pool. However, work is visible on several campuses as construction and renovation projects gain momentum.

At last week’s board meeting, Nederland School Board vice-chairman Micah Mosley said a certain level of trust was needed with the way the approval process works with HB Neild. as construction manager of the project at risk.

“I know you’re all getting great information about Highland (elementary), which is kind of the next one we’ll see,” Mosley said. “We just need to bring this to Helena (elementary) and make sure we stay on track.”

According to the school district, work at Hillcrest Elementary is expected to begin next month, and Phase III of the football stadium is expected to be completed before the start of the 2022 football season.
