PH women’s soccer team pays courtesy visit to PSC president Ramirez

CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Philippines Women’s National Soccer Team (PWNFT) paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), William “Butch” Ramirez, on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the following their historic achievement at the recent Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup 2022 in India.

The team that visited consisted of Philippine Football Federation (PFF) President Marciano “Nonong” Araneta Jr., Goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel, Chandler McDaniel, Camille Rodriguez, Anicka, Sara Castañeda, Hali Long and Inna Palacios.

“We recognize the outstanding performance of our women’s soccer team and their historic achievement,” President Ramirez said.

They also attended the first physical PSC flag-raising ceremony at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

“This is one of the peaks of our experience. We couldn’t have done this without the support of the PSC and all of you behind the scenes. You are all part of this success story,” said Long, who served as the team’s co-captain in the tournament.

Ramirez also praised the PFF leadership, its officials and Australian coach Alen Stajcic for ensuring that each of the PWNFT members brought their best performance to the world stage.

Araneta also thanked the CPS for their great support.

PWNFT players are expected to receive cash incentives through the PSC. It is now forwarded to the PSC Board of Directors for approval.

The Philippines women’s soccer team reached the semi-finals of the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup and eventually qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
