Tate Myre, 16, was shot dead at Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan on Tuesday. According to a petition, he tried to stop the shooter.

“Tate is not only a hero to his Oxford high school mates, but a legend, his act of bravery must be remembered and passed down from generation to generation,” we read.

The petition has nearly 80,000 signatures. The goal is to get 150,000. If he gets enough signings, the goal is to rename Wildcat Stadium to Tate Myre Stadium.

It’s unclear what prompted Ethan Crumbley to shoot the school. Myre was a junior, who played the running back and linebacker on the team.

“It is with great sorrow that one of the victims of today’s tragic OHS event was one of our own, Tate Myre,” Oxford Football said on Twitter. “Tate had been in college since his freshman year and was an honorary student. Tate was a great young man with a bright future and loved by all. We will miss you, Tate.
