Manchester United announce the signing of Casemiro from Real Madrid

Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian international Casemiro from La Liga champions Real Madrid.

The deal, subject to UK visa requirements, sees the 30-year-old midfielder move to Old Trafford for £70m after signing a four-year deal with an option for a further year.

Erik Ten Hag’s side are said to have paid a fixed fee of £60m for the five-time UEFA Champions League winners, with a further £10m expected in add-ons.

“The opportunity to start a new challenge at Manchester United and in the Premier League is hugely exciting,” Casemiro said via the Red Devils’ official website.

“I have worked with many great managers in my career and, having met Erik and heard his ideas, I look forward to working closely with him, his team and my new teammates in the years to come.

“I am ending a great journey in Madrid while starting another in Manchester, always determined to win football games, win trophies and make our fans proud by bringing success to this great club.

“Everyone knows the history of Manchester United, the importance of the club in the world and what it means for its supporters. Representing United is an honor and I am ready to give everything to help the team achieve our ambitions. .

Having recently undergone his medical, Casemiro was unveiled to the Old Trafford crowd on Monday night before Manchester United cruised to an impressive 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Goals from Jason Sancho and Marcus Rashford put the Red Devils into a comfortable lead before Mohamed Salah pulled one back for the Merseyside side in the 81st minute.

Casemiro is expected to start training with his new team-mates later this week ahead of Saturday’s game against Southampton where he could make his highly anticipated debut.

With the Brazil international, Manchester United acquire one of the most experienced and decorated midfielders in Europe.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with Real Madrid, where he scored 31 goals and provided 24 assists in 323 appearances in all competitions.

Casemiro, who marks Manchester United’s fourth foray into the Premier League summer transfer market, has won three La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and the Champions League crown five times.
