Kangaroo Flat Football Netball Club has withdrawn from the 2022 Central Victoria Football League women’s competition late. The club made the decision to withdraw from the season due to low attendance. KFFNC chairman Leigh Bailey said the club were disappointed they were unable to field a team. “Unfortunately, this was all out of our control,” he said. “At the end of the day it was all about the numbers. Previously we had around 20 players around Christmas and then it was reduced to around 10 which is just not enough to field a team. As a club, we held a crisis meeting with the footballers and staff and came to the conclusion that there was simply no way for us to resolve the issue.” The Roos are one of the first five teams that have been active in the CVFL since its launch in 2018. Despite the previous two COVID-19 impacted seasons, the club had been one of the best teams and had been runners-up in the grand final in 2019 for Golden Square Premiers. Sports News: Bailey said the plan was to engage with club members to work towards a return to competition in 2023. “We will be doing a review towards the end of the year with the aim of resuscitating the team and hopefully we will be back in the competition next season,” he said. Prior to the Roos’ withdrawal, the league was set to have a record nine teams competing with the addition of Castlemaine making their debut this year.As things stand, competition will revert to eight teams: Bendigo Thunder, Castlemaine, Eaglehawk, Golden Square, Kerang, Kyneton, North Bendigo and Strathfieldsaye. league manager C VFL, Nathan Williams, says the competition will remain an 18-round season. “We have decided to leave the match as it was before the club’s decision to withdraw because the matches have been fixed for such a long time and have been formatted in terms of BFNL matches, themed rounds and other events. which are in place during the season,” he said. “The only major change will be an additional pass which will now be in place as there will be one less squad.” The long-awaited 2022 season kicks off this weekend -end with two matches Eaglehawk host North Bendigo at Canterbury Park at 2.30pm on Sunday and Bendigo Thunder take on Strathfieldsaye at 2.30pm at Weeroona Oval Related: Extended 2022 CVFLW season to start April 3 | SEASON FIXING Our reporters are working hard to provide local and up-to-date news to the community.
