Wigan Athletic is likely to try to add a new striker to their ranks this month – but the Sun reporter Alain Nixon revealed that there was no deal yet.
The Latics are currently undefeated in their last five games in all competitions and with four games down they are just five points away from first place.
Leam Richardson has done an incredible job at DW Stadium so far and has compiled a squad that is well capable of competing for the top of the League One table. While Will Keane leads the scorers chart with ten so far this season, one of their main strikers in terms of goals has been Charlie Wyke.
Quiz: Has Wigan Athletic signed a player from each of these 20 clubs in the past 5 seasons?
Wyke is however currently out of action and means they could do with an additional option on offense. It will likely be a goal for the club so far this window – but Alain Nixon revealed that while there are “options”, nothing is ready for them yet.
This means that, for now, the club will likely have to make do with what they have. They have plenty of time to bring a new face to the attack and it sure looks like they are keeping their options open. However, without a deal reached, that means they will have to continue using Callum Lang and Keane in this advanced role.
Wigan has new wealth since his redemption and could quite easily spend the money on the right target. Right now, however, it looks like they’re just identifying targets rather than taking action on them.
Leam Richardson has certainly done all the right things and done all the right things as Wigan boss.
Since taking the reins he has led the club to the safety of Ligue 1 and now has them compete on the other end of the division and dream of a place in the league again. He made sure the team played consistently and got strong results and it looks like they are real contenders for the promotion.
The boss has a solid unit in place already – and adding a striker is the right move, because that’s an area they’re pretty light on at the moment. If they manage to find the right target, it could push them into high gear in the second half of the campaign as well.
Latics fans will be happy to hear that they are considering some goals from the get-go, but they are hopeful that some real action and offers can kick off soon.
