Irish football team Bohemians celebrate Bob Marley with new away kit

Dublin-based Irish football team the Bohemians have shared a new away kit featuring Bob Marley’the face.

The shirt, created in collaboration with the Marley family and Universal Music Group Bravado’s merchandise division, commemorates the reggae legend’s last outdoor concert, which took place at the team’s home stadium, Dalymount Park, in July 1980.

Daniel Lambert, COO of Bohemian FC, said of the shirt: “It gives me immense joy to unveil this shirt today after years of working on the idea. Marley’s concert at Dalymount is one of Ireland’s truly special musical events, his only Irish show and sadly his last outdoors.

His love of football is widely known to alland that he played on our famous pitch before the concert, the same grass that some of the best players in the world have graced like Pelé, Best and Zidane is amazing.

Of the famous 1980 concert, promoter Pat Egan added: “I think it’s a brilliant thing in terms of the memories of the day, the first major world star to play an outdoor concert in Ireland.

“It will be an iconic shirt and help keep the legend of Marley alive on our island. On the day itself, to see him on stage in the stadium, with the huge church tower in the background, was out of this world.

The shirt is available for pre-order from Bohemians official online storewith 10% of profits being donated to asylum centers across Ireland to provide musical instruments and football kits, in association with club partners the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI) .

Last year, Fontaines DC also sponsored an outdoor kit from Bohemians to support a homeless charity. The group’s name appears on the front of the 2021/22 shirt, with 15% of profits going to Focus Ireland.

In an interview with the irish time, they said: “The jersey bears a true tribute to Dublin. It features Poolbeg towers, Grattan Bridge lamps. On the back there is ‘Beware of resurrected people’. We took a plot of that. That’s what Pearse wrote in Kilmainham cell… ‘Dublin in the rain is mine’ is inside the pass, it’s one of [Fontaines DC’s] Lyrics.”
