Hedland Blazers through to the preliminary final of the North Pilbara Football League women’s competition

The Hedland Blazers’ final campaign will continue after beating the Karratha Falcons 2.4 (16) to 1.1 (7) in a hard-fought playoff final at Wickham Oval on Saturday.

The Blazers traveled to Wickham and battled against the Falcons to hold an eight-point 1.3-0.1 quarter lead.

A grueling second term saw neither team able to score, with both teams’ defense refusing to give an inch.

The Blazers controlled the game in the third term, but windy conditions made scoring difficult as the Hedland side were only able to add a single point to their total while keeping the Falcons scoreless.

With nine points separating the two teams, it was anyone’s game heading into the final quarter.

Both teams scored a goal apiece to keep the fight close until the final siren, but the Blazers would not be denied, holding steady to secure victory.

Ashlea Todd and Maddison Fletcher scored a goal each for the Blazers while Anna Wailu scored the Falcons goal.

Meanwhile, Karratha Kats took on the Dampier Sharks in the Qualifying Final at Windy Ridge Oval.

The Kats, who are undefeated in three seasons, continued their dominant run kicking 4.3-0.0 at halftime to hold a 27-point lead at the main break.

The second half saw both clubs battle hard for control of the footy but in the end Kats’ class carried Karratha’s side to another victory, 4.4 (28) to 0.0 .

Dampier will now face Hedland Blazers in the preliminary final at the Colin Matheson Oval on September 3.
