Granovskaia leaves in latest Blues reshuffle

Chelsea have confirmed that manager Marina Granovskaia will be leaving the club as part of its boardroom overhaul following Todd Boehly’s takeover.

This follows Monday’s announcement that Bruce Buck will step down as chairman after 19 years in the role.

American businessman Boehly will become interim chairman and sporting director, with Granovskaia assisting with transfers for the remainder of the current window.

Chelsea’s statement said: “Boehly will operate as interim sporting director until the club appoints a full-time replacement, continuing the club’s work towards its objectives during the current transfer window.

“Chelsea and Ms Granovskaia have agreed that she will remain available to Boehly and the club for the departure of the current transfer window to the extent necessary to support the transition.”

Granovskaia worked as a representative for former owner Roman Abramovich before joining Chelsea’s board in 2013, when she began playing a key role in transfer deals.

Boehly added: “We thank Marina for her many years of excellent service to the club and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

Bale holds talks in Cardiff

Gareth Bale reportedly in talks with local club Cardiff

Cardiff have reportedly held talks with Gareth Bale’s representatives over a sensational move to the Championship side.

Bale, who was born in the Welsh capital, will become a free agent when his contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of this month.

With the Wales captain, 32, looking for a new club ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year, multiple sources report the Bluebirds are keen to negotiate a deal.

Cardiff is said to be a realistic option for the superstar striker, with keeping fit for the Dragons’ first World Cup appearance since 1958 the priority ahead of any financial incentive.

Most of Bale’s family members live in his hometown and there is a feeling he could be more selective with the games he plays in the second tier.

Despite their interest, the five-time Champions League winner is said to have a number of offers on the table with a move to MLS also on the cards.

England captain Harry Kane will sponsor the shirt of League 2 club Leyton Orient for the third consecutive season.

The Tottenham striker, 28, played his first professional game while on loan at the O’s in 2011 and will support mental health charity Shout on the front of the shirt.

Kane has supported veterans’ charity Tommy Club and the NHS in previous years as a sponsor.

Orient will also donate 10% of the proceeds from the upcoming season’s shirt sales to the charity.

Kane told his club’s official website: “I am delighted to be sponsoring Leyton Orient’s kits for a third season.

“I was born just a few miles from the Orient stadium and I’m really happy to give back to the club that gave me my first professional start.

“I am delighted to welcome Shout to this partnership. Covid-19 has presented many challenges, and these have affected the mental health and well-being of many people.

“Shout provides a helpline and vital resources to the public, helping to positively improve mental health and well-being.

“The special charities I’ve chosen for the shirt fronts all mean a lot to me, and I hope this platform helps them get the exposure and support they need.”

England striker Ellen White will miss Friday’s Women’s Euro 2022 warm-up clash with the Netherlands after testing positive for coronavirus.

The 33-year-old left the Lionesses camp at St George’s Park with a view to recovering and returning quickly, but the game at Elland Road will come too soon.

Sarina Wiegman won’t name a replacement for White, leaving the Dutch boss with a 22-man squad to choose from against the Oranje.

It will be England’s last home game before the tournament opener against Austria on July 6, with a friendly in Switzerland scheduled for next Thursday.

The Lionesses won the first of their warm-up matches for the tournament last week, beating Belgium 3-0 at Molineux.

Carlos Tevez has named Tottenham boss Antonio Conte as one of his biggest influences after taking his first managerial job with Argentina side Rosario Central.

The 38-year-old former Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus striker will take his first steps into the Argentinian top flight after announcing his retirement from the game earlier this month.

Having worked under Conte while still a player at Turin, Tevez has revealed he will try to emulate the Italian coach in the way he settles at Rosario.

In his first press conference as manager, he said: “I have a great reference who was [Antonio] Conté at Juventus. He is one of those who have taught me the most as a player.

“I will try to get the team to play at least a little, or half the way his team played.”

Rosario is currently 23rd out of 28 in the Argentine Primera Division having played four games in the second phase of the season.
