Eggbuckland Women’s Football Team in the National Cup Final

The talented footballers from Eggbuckland Community College in Plymouth are preparing to triumph in the English Schools National Cup final in Birmingham next week. The women’s under-15 team, which has two international-level players, battled through to the final. The girls have scored 55 fantastic goals from nine different goalscorers along the way. They also celebrated a 14-0 victory and achieved five clean sheets during their run.

Now the side, captained by Brooke Ellis, will take on Yorkshire’s South Hunsley School at The Hawthorns – home of West Bromwich Albion FC – in a match on May 24. The squad will include Mia Endacott and Taya Pomfret, who both play for England. School girls. Mia also plays for the England Under-16 team.

Fifteen girls will travel to the game with their Eggbuckland sports teachers Helen Mullally and Marc Whaley. Eggbuckland staff and students, families and friends will join them as the school plans to send a shipment of suitable support to Plymouth.

Helen Mullally, sports teacher, said: “We have been working with the girls since years 7 and 8, when they reached the quarter-finals. Six of those girls also made it to the EFL Cup final, which was to be played at Wembley. However, Covid prevented that from happening, so that realization took a long time to come. Finally, they have the chance to show their abilities, skills and resilience.

“It’s an incredible group of girls who are focused and determined to give their best, individually and as a team. Now we want them to win, and I know we’ll see them continue to work together. for others and being positive on the pitch on Tuesday.

Matthew Corrigan, principal of Eggbuckland Community College, said the whole college would be encouraging the girls. He said: “We are so proud of our women’s under-15 team. They are exceptionally talented, fiercely competitive and truly down to earth athletes who inspire us all.
