Agreement in place between Newcastle and EFL club

Newcastle United are close to making a deal to send 19-year-old attacking midfielder Elliot Anderson on loan to Luton Town, according to Athletic.

The teenager is said to be the North East club’s most promising youngster, but he is keen to leave St James’ Park this month with tough opportunities to grasp despite his recent inclusion in match day squads.

Limited options due to injuries and illnesses meant Anderson was named to the bench, but he hasn’t played a minute of senior football this season.

Athletic reported that with the arrival of Chris Wood from Burnley, the departure of the young talent of the Magpies will soon be sanctioned.

It is understood that several EFL clubs have expressed an interest in the attacking midfielder, but a deal is in place with Luton and close to being made.

The Hats were said to have been one of many enthusiastic teams last January, but Steve Bruce convinced the academy nominee to stay put.

Anderson has been in fantastic form for Newcastle U23s this quarter – scoring five times in six Premier League 2 appearances.

The verdict

It could be a very exciting signing for Luton.

They have benefited greatly from loan signings in recent years and at Anderson they are looking to land a player who is ready to prove himself at the senior level and able to make an impact at the championship level.

Although he has little first-team experience, the fact that he is seen as Newcastle’s most promising youngster shows just how talented he is.

It appears that despite interest from elsewhere, a deal is in place between the Premier League club and the Hatters, with a decision to be finalized soon.
